Your chance to win up to £20,000*

Do you, your group or organisation have an idea that could be developed? Do you need support, training and funding?

Following on from the success of last year’s “Big Bonanza” where £68,000 worth of funding, free training and tailored business support was given to Northamptonshire initiatives, the Young Foundation and The University of Northampton have decided to offer this programme again.

This year the Young Foundation and The University of Northampton are looking to support groups that have an idea to benefit the community. They will be particularly interested in ideas that would:

Improve the employability of unemployed – with an emphasis of job creation

Improve the health and wellbeing of individuals in the community

Prevent or reduce offending

If your idea will meet a social need, is based in Corby and has the potential to generate an income to make it sustainable then you may be interested in finding our more about the BIG 2 Ideas Bonanza. The next step is to contact Enterprise Coaching or Corby VCS who have teamed up to provide you with support through your application process and potentially further support whether or not you are successful.

A previous client of Enterprise Coaching who received our support last year said:

“I couldn’t have done it without them. Jay from Enterprise Coaching helped me with my application form, any questions that I had as well as my pitch for the funding. I was so happy when I found out that I was granted £3,000 for my Social Enterprise idea! I now have the funding, and with Jay’s continued support I’m looking at the most effective ways to spend it on the business and make my dream a reality”.

Mark Brennan – White Ark Music

After you application has been submitted, the most promising will be chosen to attend two days training at the University on the 21st and 28th of April. These workshops will help you to enhance and strengthen your idea, with specialist expertise to develop it further. The final application for the funding will be held on the 14th of May, also at the University.

To apply you must be a member of staff or student of The University of Northampton, a resident of Northamptonshire, public sector employee working in Northamptonshire, or a third sector organisation based or operating in Northamptonshire. We welcome applications from individuals, teams or established organisations looking to launch a new idea or grow an existing service, and preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a collaborative link to The University of Northampton, its staff or student body.

If you are interested in this opportunity please speak to Jay from Enterprise Coaching or Carolyn from Corby VCS for an informal chat.

The deadline for completed applications to be submitted is 5pm 30th March 2012

We are excited to announce that a Trussell Trust foodbank is opening here in Corby. The aim of the Corby Foodbank is to help families and individuals when they are experiencing difficulties and are finding it hard to provide food for themselves.

Often these families and individuals present themselves to care professionals such as doctors, health visitor, family workers and social workers asking them to help; the Corby Foodbank would like to offer to help in this situation. As someone who may get these requests for help we would like you to consider becoming someone who could refer people to the Corby Foodbank. As a referral person/agency you would become a voucher holder for the Corby Foodbank, so when someone comes to you who has no food you can issue them with a voucher which they then bring to a Corby Foodbank distribution centre where it can be redeemed for three days’ supply of emergency food. Volunteers will be there to meet clients over a cup of tea and are able to signpost people to agencies able to help with the longer-term problems if appropriate.

We believe that the Corby Foodbank will be a valuable addition to supporting people in times of crisis. If you are interested in finding out more about this project and how to become a referrer come along to a presentation meeting on Wednesday 14th March at the Hope Centre, 8 Princewood Rd, Corby, NN17 4AP The meeting will start at 12.30pm and should last no longer than an hour and a half, we will also be providing lunch.

For more information about the Corby Foodbank please visit our website www.corby.foodbank.org.uk

New funding for communities in the Anglia region to improve their heart health has been launched this week. The SUBWAY®/HRUK Healthy Heart Grants are being run by national heart charity, Heart Research UK, and are the result of a partnership between the charity and the high street sandwich chain. Money for the grants has been raised through in-store fundraising across SUBWAY® stores in the Anglia region.

£10,000 is available for community groups that have a passion for improving local people’s heart health. Funding is for original, innovative projects that promote heart health and reduce the risk of developing heart disease in the community. Projects can address a variety of issues like healthy eating, physical activity and smoking cessation but the key focus must be heart health.

“The aim of our partnership with the SUBWAY® chain is to encourage people to make good healthy choices and give practical help. This funding will help even more people learn to look after their heart health and lead healthier, happier, longer lives. It’s great that so many customers and staff have supported and raised the money to get this up and running. Thanks to everyone who has made these grants possible and apply now!”

Barbara Harpham, National Director at Heart Research UK

“The SUBWAY® chain is delighted that through our partnership with Heart Research UK the SUBWAY®/HRUK Healthy Heart Grants are now available. SUBWAY® stores in the region have enjoyed fundraising and combined with money generously donated by our customers in store, we’re proud to be able to offer this grant in the Anglia region. ”

Manaaz Akhtar, Head of Marketing for the SUBWAY® chain in the UK and Ireland

“We have worked hard to spread the Healthy Heart message through SUBWAY® stores in the area and to be able to take this to the next level by supporting community projects that also place heart health at the top of their agenda is wonderful. We really appreciate the fact that this initiative reaches out to people from all walks of life, in all manner of ways, to help improve lifestyles and educate people on keeping their hearts healthy.”

To find out if you are located in SUBWAY®’s Anglia region and would like to apply for the SUBWAY®/HRUK Healthy Heart Grant visit www.heartresearch.org.uk to download application materials. The deadline for applying 31 March 2012.

If you would like more information about the SUBWAY®/HRUK Healthy Heart Grant please contact the Lifestyle Department on 0113 297 6206 or e-mail lifestyle@heartresearch.org.uk
